Ask any parent what they want for their kid, and most are going to say safety and security. But have you ever considered some of the biggest dangers lie a lot closer to the vest?
By this, we mean the vest itself—which is why buying organic kids’ clothes is worth thinking about.
Around 60% of modern garments contain synthetic fabrics like nylon, polyester, and acrylic (AKA plastic).
Instead of BPA and phthalate-leaching materials, toxic dyes, and chemical flame retardants, organic children’s clothing uses chemical-free, natural materials to keep your little ones safe and comfortable as they grow.
Being a parent is hard enough. So we’re thankful these A+ brands ease our anxieties and make sustainability for kids more stylish (and safe) than ever. We considered materials, ethical manufacturing, sustainable business practices, and more to choose the best brands for our mini-me’s.
We’ve also created a new Brand Rating System that we’ll be using to update all our articles. To get a head start on how it works and the 22 different criteria it covers, take a look at our explainer.
We independently research all featured brands and we ask them to confirm their claims. In many cases we personally review recommended products. This post contains affiliate links which means we may earn a commission if you buy something. Learn more here.

Firebird Kids
About Firebird Kids
Price Range: $48–$108
Firebird Kids is fighting the fires of fast fashion by sourcing certified organic materials for its range of organic cotton kid’s clothes: tees, sweaters, hoodies, and sweatshirts.
Firebird’s mascot is a magical bird from Slavic fairy tales. It’s a symbol of questing, adventure, value, and the pursuit of better things—all at the core of Firebird’s business model.
Your kiddo can rock these ideals, too, in the fun and functional Embroidered Firebird Tee.
We got to test out two of such tees, which were equally as soft thanks to being made of 100% Peruvian Pima Cotton (speaking of Peru, did you know they’ve banned the use of GMO seeds altogether?).
The tees are a loose fit with snug arm and waist bands and a dropped shoulder giving them a slouchy, comfortable look for all-day play.
Firebird Kids’ Ethical & Sustainability Practices
Materials:
Firebird offers 100% organic cotton children’s clothing that’s GOTS-certified, and free from harmful chemicals.
When cotton is organic it’s stronger, softer, and more durable than conventional cotton—making it more comfortable, kinder to sensitive skin, and better suited for passing on.
Supply chain & labor practices:
Firebird keeps things local and ethical with organic toddler clothes made in the USA. They work with two women-owned factories, one in LA and one in NYC.
The only slight exception is the cotton yarn used in the sweaters, which is marled in Italy and knitted in NYC.
Their cotton is sourced from Peru, a country that’s banned the use of GMO cotton seeds. Such a ban eliminates the risk of contamination, which can be an issue in other cotton-producing countries.
Carbon commitments & green practices:
Organic is optimal for kids’ clothes so the cultivation of Firebird’s cotton uses no pesticides, herbicides, fertilizers, or defoliants.
Items are ethically made in small batches, and any outgrown pieces are given the opportunity for a second, third, fourth, or more lease of life with the brand’s Pass It On resale platform.
Each clothing item we receieved had a simple tag with very little wasteful packaging, just the way we like it! They’re then packaged in 100% recycled, recyclable, and biodegradable boxes or compostable mailers.
Inclusivity:
Organic girls’ clothes and boys’ clothes range from US 2T to 12-13.
